Tree Pruning

Pruning is essential to ensure healthy trees and enhance their beauty and attractiveness. All trees will need pruning as they develop not only to encourage new healthy growth but also to safeguard against the risk of damaging property or becoming a danger to people and traffic. By reducing the crown of the tree, the root plate maintains the strength required to keep the tree sturdy, upright and well balanced.

It is important to preserve the health of the tree by making sure old, rotting and diseased limbs are removed and the best way to remember this is the three Ds – Dead, Damaged and Diseased. Pruning must be carried out to the tree collar without leaving any ‘pegs’ behind (as these rot and allow disease in) allowing the tree to properly heal the wound, preventing disease occurring.

Tree Felling

Safety in this procedure should always be a number one priority which is why professionals must undergo specialist training and hold a NPTC chainsaw licence. Use of the correct tools and equipment is essential and work must be adequately covered by public liability and employer’s liability insurances.

There are numerous reasons as to why a tree may need to be felled, for example; if it obstructs the view or the building, if it does not fit within your garden design, if it has become dangerous or too large for the area or if it has suffered disease or died. At the customer’s discretion, arrangements can be made to retain, remove or recycle the wood once the tree has been felled.

Tree Stump Grinding

Once the tree has been felled – a stump is left behind, in order to replant or develop the land this must be removed to prevent regrowth and obstruction. This procedure uses a stump grinder, which grinds into the stump and deep into the ground to ensure roots are also removed.
